Book review: Stiff by Mary Roach
Stiff is a non-fiction and scientific look at the life of a human body after death. Mary Roach has a unique way of describing what happens to the body after death and quite possibly the only view in popular science. She researches many different topics of what happens to a dead body, from donating your body to science, organ donation, or using the dead body to understand the living one.
I now have a new understanding of car safety since they use human
bodies in controlled car accidents to determine how bones would break
and organs could split open.
Her approach to writing about this topic is often gruesome but also with a great sense of humor.
The takeaway from this book is not only my desire what I want to do with my body after death but what impact these decisions would have on my family.
Rating: Good (but not to be read by the faint of stomach)
